The Need for the Project

After the Revolution, because of the geographical position and economic situation, Romania has become a very well-known place for recruiting victims, as well as a gate way to West Europe for victims from Romania, Republic of Moldavia and Ukraine.

The counties of Romania that are more vulnerable to human traffic are those from the border of it and fights poverty. The traffic phenomenon is manifesting in different ways.

  • Sexual exploitation / Pornography. Thousands of victims yearly are recruited and transferred to west Europe for pornography and sexual exploitation reasons. In the last 2 years a new phenomenon of sexual exploitation took place: Video chat. Hundreds of girls from Romania and Moldova’s Republic are lured into video chat business.
  • Forced labor. Males specially from poor and undeveloped areas, with no perspective of getting a job are lured to go in west Europe to work for a good pay promise. After they go out of country their IDs are confiscated and then they work for months with no payment.
  • Bagging. Trafficking in bagging is manifested in two ways. On one hand there are networks of people that lure kids and people with disabilities. They take them outside of country for bagging. On the other hand, is the origin family who is taking them for bagging. The husband compels them for this with the reality of abandoning the family if is not coming aside him.
  • Robbery / Fraud. Teens under the threat with physical violence to them or their family are pushed to carry the goods like money, drugs from one place to another.

Project Motivation

The reason of growing traffic phenomenon in our country is mostly due to lack of information. The driving motivation behind this project is: our believe that by informing people and help them to understand the consequences of their choice will equip them to make better decisions for them and others in the future. This will contribute to significantly reducing the trafficked number of people in the following years.
